Overview
In this section, you can learn about the journey of 14 living kidney donors.
This includes their experiences throughout the donation process, from discovering kidney donation to making decisions, experiences with medical care, recovery, and living as a kidney donor. All interviewees lived in the Mountain West region of the United States, with most living in New Mexico.
The goal of this pilot project was to recruit and interview a small but diverse group of living kidney donors and find out more about their experiences. We also wanted to provide preliminary data for a grant application to conduct a full module.
With our current data, we hope to provide valuable insights and a better understanding of living kidney donation to numerous types of people such as potential donors, their families, and clinicians. In a full module, you would learn about the experiences of many more living kidney donors across the United States. We would dig deeper into the topics below and share additional information in areas such as donors’ experiences discovering kidney donation, living as a kidney donor, advocacy, loss, and their messages to others.
